How to Protect Your Social Security Number
1. Place a security freeze on your file so your credit file cannot be accessed. Do this with all three [3] credit reporting bureaus. Note: It might cost you to un-freeze your account, so be sure to check the fine print. Contact information is below:

2. Report fraud activity quickly at 877-438-4338 or online at: IdentityTheft.gov | Also file a police report, and notify all three [3] credit reporting bureaus and banks.
3. Report Medicare fraud to 800-447-8477
4. Report tax refund fraud to the IRS at 800-908-4490
5. If you lost or someone stole your social security card, call 800-772-1213 or online at socialsecurity.gov/ssnumber
6. Never carry your social security card with you
7. When asked, DO NOT TELL! Did you know that ONLY a few organizations have a legal right to your SS# - namely: your employer, IRS & government-funded programs, investment fund officer, banks and lenders. When asked by others, JUST SAY NO!!
8. Guard your FINAL FOUR! The last four [4] digits are the most important to protect. They are truly random and unique. The first five [5] numbers represent when and where your social security card was issued. Scammers can get your birth date by obtaining your home town! So, DO NOT use the last four digits as a PIN # and don't ever share them in an email. Ask your company to utilize an alternative way to identify you. **
